"To Secure the Blessings of Liberty by Reacquainting this and Future Generations with the Founding Principles
of the American Republic"

History

Patriotic Education Incorporated was founded as a non-profit corporation in 1952 by a group of members of the Sons of the American Revolution.

These members were concerned that too many Americans understood far too little of our nation's heritage and their responsibilities as citizens to preserve the blessings of liberties we enjoy. Their objective was "to develop a strong citizenry, fully informed on the basic ideas and principles of our country, which will stand steadfast in the faith of the founding fathers of our republic." This remains PEI's purpose today.

Mission/Goals

Challenges to Freedom in a new millennium underscore the importance of developing constructive citizenship through patriotic education. PEI's mission is to secure the blessings of liberty by reacquainting this and future generations with the founding principles of the American Republic.

PEI reaches young Americans through publications and programs designed to increase their understanding and inspire appreciation of this nation's basic documents and the patriots who codified and defended our unique system of liberty under law. We encourage comprehensive teaching of the events and historical context of our country's founding as essential for decisions which citizens must make today and in the future.

PEI augments the citizenship education programs of public, private and home schools, youth service agencies, civic associations, veterans organizations and other patriotic groups. Among those using PEI materials are American Legion Boys Nation, Boys State and Girls State, Veterans of Foreign Wars Voice of Democracy, Sons of the American Revolution, The Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW), Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, Boy Scouts of America Leadership Program, and high school JROTC. Since 1977 PEI has enjoyed a cooperative and mutually supportive relationship with the Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW). The Key to the Constitution of the United States and other PEI publications are used in MOWW youth leadership conferences, Eagle Scout and Gold Award recognition certificate programs, and ROTC and JROTC outreach activities of several chapters.
