Chartered in 1952, PEI is a non-profit, non-partisan, non-sectarian, volunteer-led organization. Operations are directed by elected volunteer Trustees and officers who serve without salary. PEI relies on the annual financial investment and active involvement of concerned citizens to develop new materials and cover modest support costs. A portion of the organization's income is derived from sales of educational publications and materials. The corporation is tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
